DESCRIPTION:The title ‘What is life?’ derives from a book writ
ten in 1944 by the physicist Erwin Schr¨odinger wh
ich\ncontroversially merges physics and biology in
order to describe life processes. We want to ask
both\nthe sciences and humanities how the phenomen
on of life\, and human life in particular (but not
  exclusively)\nis transformed into understanding a
nd representation in their disciplines. How is the
  gulf\, in Kant’s sense\,\nbetween actual life and
rational understanding of life overcome\, if at a
ll? How can materialistic and subjective treatment
s of ‘life’ be reconciled? Finally\, what are the
consequences for the ethical human being of any ch
anged conception of life?\n\nFor more information
