DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Centre for Climate Science would lik
e to welcome you to the first student symposium\,
held at the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI)
on the 8th May 2015. This conference aims to brin
g together the broad scientific research from stud
ents within the six University of Cambridge depart
ments\, SPRI and the British Antarctic Survey. The
one day event will consist of oral presentations
and posters\, with lunch and refreshments provided
. We also welcome Dr Emily Shuckburgh from BAS\, w
ho will be our guest speaker for the day. Whilst t
he main theme of the conference is ‘Climate Resear
ch’\, the day will be split into sessions on past\
, present and future climate. The programme will i
nclude research on (but not be limited to) climate
  change\, meteorology\, ecosystem adaptation\, cli
 mate modelling\, global teleconnections\, reconstr
ucting past climates\, ice shelf interactions\, oc
ean-atmosphere links\, boundary layer and turbulen
 ce\, evolution in a changing climate\, observation
 s and data assimilation\, cloud properties\, human
-climate interactions and much more. Abstracts wil
l be taken from any masters or PhD level student\,
  with a climate-related research project.\n\nAs th
is conference is specifically for students to prom
ote their research\, it is an excellent opportunit
y to gain experience in communicating your science
. This will be a great environment to practice you
r oral presentations and prepare you for larger co
nferences. The day will end with a wine reception
which provides ample time to mingle with your fell
ow students\, and refine those networking skills.
This event (and refreshments/lunch) is free for re
gistered students\, and will be held at the Scott
Polar Research Institute on the 8th May 2015.\n\nA
