DESCRIPTION:In his book "Mrs Thatcher's Economic Experiment" W
illiam Keegan won acclaim (even from critics) for
the virulence of his attack on the government's mo
netarist policies of the early 1980s. These\, in h
is opinion\, produced an unnecessarily severe rece
ssion and much social damage. His new book\, "Mr O
sborne's Economic Experiment " is a conscious echo
of that earlier work. Keegan believes that\, alth
ough the circumstances are different\, there are p
arallels in the way that unnecessarily deflationar
y policies aggravated the recession that was initi
ally brought on by the financial crisis\,and have
caused needless social hardship. William Keegan ha
s been the Senior Economics Commentator of The Obs
erver for many years\, having previously worked at
the Bank of England and the Financial Times.
