DESCRIPTION:Suppose that we have a sequence (with some nice pr
operties) of smooth projective varieties and would
like to think about its "limit". One way to do so
is by considering the limit as an algebraic degen
eration (flat limit)\, but we can also think about
the limit as a metric space (Gromov-Hausdorff lim
it)\, by recalling that a smooth projective variet
y can be endowed with a Riemannian structure. Dona
ldson and Sun proved\, under some technical hypoth
eses\, that these limits are "equal". The aim of t
his talk is to briefly review this result\, starti
ng with the definition of Gromov-Hausdorff limit.
