DESCRIPTION:Polynomials are among the oldest ideas in mathemat
ics\,\nand they are also one of the most powerful
tools for\npractical computing. Rational function
s generalize them in ways that give new power near
singularities and on unbounded regions. This fou

he textbook Approximation Theory and Approximation
Practice. Topics touched upon will include the b
arycentric interpolation formula\, the Runge pheno
menon\, rootfinding via colleague matrices\, the R
emez algorithm for best approximation\, Gauss quad
rature\, and analytic continuation\; \n\nand\n\n2)
PRACTICE\, using Chebfun. Participants should br
ing\nlapops leaded with Matlab and plan to spend s
ome enjoyable time working in pairs on some challe

bove. No prior Chebfun experience is needed but y
