DESCRIPTION:In recent years there has been a renewed interest
in higher spin gravity. These theories have the po
tential to be the simplest models of AdS/CFT\, and
hence can provide insight to the fundamental mech
anics behind holography. In this talk I'll overvie
w recent progress on non-perturbative aspects of t
hese theories with particular emphasis on black ho
les and its associated thermodynamics. We will als
o discuss issues related to holographic entangleme
nt entropy and the Hawking-Page phase transitions
as interesting applications of these new developme
 nts.
