DESCRIPTION:In order to realise the enormous potential for bio
energy production from microalgae\, several challe
nges must be overcome\, including ensuring that th
ere is a net carbon balance\, and that it is econo
mically viable.\n\nOne way in which this might be
addressed is to consider developing algae as indus
trial biotechnology platforms for production of hi
gh value\, low volume compounds. As well as provid
ing an initial income stream\, it will also enable
agronomic 'know-how' for industrial algal cultiva
 tion to be developed.\n\n-------------------------
 -------------------------\n\nThese seminars aim to
bring together a diverse range of individuals fro
m the humanities as well as social and natural sci
ences to discuss the public policy implications of
their work and research.\n\nThey will take place
on Fridays between 1-2pm\, throughout the Lent ter
 m. \n\nEach talk will last 25-30 minutes and will
 be followed by open discussion.
