DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we present recent results concernin
g the spherical collapse of self-gravitating charg
ed scalar fields. The main result gives a complet
e characterization of the future boundary of space
time\, providing a starting point for studying the
cosmic censorship conjectures. As a simple corol
lary\, we show that scenarios of `naked singularit
 y' formation by means of `super-charging' (near-)e
xtremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes are impossi
ble. We will also discuss results on trapped surf
ace formation\, Cauchy horizon stability and space
time extendibility. The main difficulty in delimit
ing the boundary is isolated in proving a suitable
global extension principle which effectively excl
udes a broad class of singularity formation. This
suggests a new notion of `strongly tame' matter m
odels which we introduce. The boundary characteri
zation given extends to any such `strongly tame' E
 instein-matter system.
