DESCRIPTION:Saturated fusion systems are categories satisfying
important features of\nfusion in finite groups.\n
They have been studied by algebraic topologists\,
modular representation\ntheorists and recently als
o by local group theorists.\nMany concepts and res
ults from finite group theory have been translated
\ninto the language of fusion systems. This makes
it possible to attempt a\nclassification of certai
n classes of saturated fusion systems.\n\nWe will
define minimal fusion systems in a way that every
non-solvable\nfusion system has a section which is
minimal. Minimal fusion systems can\nbe seen as a
n analog of Thompson's N-groups whose classificati
on set a\npattern for the classification of finite
simple groups. I will report on\nthe current prog
ress of a project\, which aims to investigate mini
mal\nfusion systems for arbitrary primes and to cl
assify minimal fusion systems\nover $2$-groups.\n
