DESCRIPTION:In a topological quantum field theory\, path integ
 rals can often be expressed instead as the trace o
 f a monodromy action on a Hilbert space.\n\nIn thi
 s talk I will discuss an arithmetic analogue of th
 is phenomena for function fields\, where the phase
  space is replaced with the \\ell-torsion points o
 f the Jacobian of a curve over a finite field\, th
 e path integral is replaced with a sum over the po
 ints of J[\\ell]\, and the monodromy is instead re
 placed with the Frobenius action. Time permitting\
 , I will also briefly outline the proof of the ari
 thmetic trace-path integral formula.
