DESCRIPTION:Driven chemical reactions can control the macrosco
 pic properties of droplets\, like their size. Such
  active droplets are critical in structuring the i
 nterior of biological cells. When bridging two str
 uctures\, such droplets generate capillary forces\
 , which depend on surface properties and distance.
  Understanding these forces in the presence of act
 ive chemical reactions requires determining how ch
 emical reactions alter both droplet nucleation\, w
 hich controls the onset of force\, and the forces 
 themselves.\nHere\, we employ an equilibrium surro
 gate model\, which reveals that reactions increase
  the effective energy barrier of nucleation\, enab
 ling quantitative predictions of the increased nuc
 leation times. Once bridges form\, we demonstrate 
 that reactions control the radius of the bridge. T
 his ultimately leads to purely repulsive forces\, 
 which contrasts with the typically attractive forc
 es in passive systems. Our results reveal how chem
 ical activity can fundamentally alter forces gener
 ated by liquid bridges\, which could be exploited 
 by cells.
