DESCRIPTION:Anonymous communication systems\, such as mix networks\, achie
ve anonymity at the expense of latency\, which is introduced to alter the
flow of packets and hinder their tracing. However\, high latency has a neg
ative impact on usability. In this talk\, I present some recent works prop
osing novel latency-aware routing schemes for mixnets that reduce propagat
ion latency with a limited impact on anonymity. They can achieve this whil
e also balancing traffic load in the network. Additionally\, I will discus
s how a network can be configured to maximize anonymity while meeting an a
verage end-to-end latency constraint\, along with a security analysis stud
ying various adversarial strategies\, suggesting that these approaches wil
l not provide a considerable advantage to adversaries.
