DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 4th February\, Dr Jag Srai will give a
  presentation on Configuring international supply
chains: an integrated operations perspective - fin
dings from research and practice.\nBusinesses have
long recognized the importance of an effective su
pply chain\, one that integrates suppliers\, enabl
es efficient production and is able to service cus
tomers in a timely cost effective manner. The desi
gn of the supply network\, linking suppliers\, pro
ducers\, distributors with their customers has evo
lved over the last 25 years from a basic process i
ntegration activity\, to one of a complex network
design task. Globalization\, new routes to market
and rapid technology change have resulted in chang
ing industry structures\, often involving a fragme
ntation of the traditional supply chain. In his ta
lk\, Dr Jag Srai reviews some of the exemplar mode
ls identified in our recent research projects with
in the Centre for International Manufacturing\, an
d how the ‘configuration perspective’ applied acro
ss different aspects of the manufacturing value ch
ain can support firms to design radical alternativ
es to innovation and market supply.\n\nPresentatio
 n at 17.30 - 18.30. Refreshments from 17.00 hrs.
