DESCRIPTION:Seeking a common generalization of Szemeredi's The
 orem on arithmetic progressions in a set of intege
 rs with positive density and Hindman's Theorem on 
 a monochromatic finite sumsets in any finite color
 ing of the integers\, Erdos formulated several que
 stions and conjectures. &nbsp\;In joint work with 
 Joel Moreira\, Florian Richter\, and Donald Robert
 son\, we prove some of these\, showing that any se
 t of positive density contains a shift of a restri
 cted sumset. The talk will be an overview of the m
 ethods and more recent developments.&nbsp\;\n&nbsp
 \;
