DESCRIPTION:The ATLAS level-1 calorimeter trigger (L1Calo) is
a hardware system that identifies events containin
 g calorimeter-based physics objects (e.g. jets\, m
 issing ET \, e/γ\, τ s). In preparation for Run 3
 with increased pileup\, L1Calo implemented a signi
ficant programme of upgrades. The combined effort
of L1Calo UK over many years resulted in a 20% rat
e reduction of e/γ rate with similar thresholds. T
his seminar aims to give an idea of the broad arra
y of work that was needed to make this happen.
