DESCRIPTION:The concept of cell therapy refers to placing new
and healthy cells into the human body to modulate
function of the patient’s cells to halt and revers
 e disease\, restore damaged organs and\, ultimatel
 y\, cure many life-threating conditions (e.g. diab
 etis\, retinal disease\, stroke\, spinal cord inju
 ry\, liver disease\, parkinson’s disease). In this
talk I will explain the potential of cell therapy
to regenerate tissues and treat disease\, the sou
rce of cells that can be used\, and I will give ex
amples of the basic and preclinical research behin
d the cell therapies I worked on for retinal and l
iver disesase. Finally\, I will discuss the challe
nges of the technology that are left for the futur
 e.
