DESCRIPTION:This study aims to understand efficient network fo
rmation and optimal defensive resource distributio
n in the presence of an intelligent attacker. We p
resent a two-player dynamic framework in which the
Defender and the Attacker compete in a network fo
rmation and defence game with heterogeneous vertic
es' values. Such a model allows for studying the t
rade-off between network efficiency and security.
Contrary to the literature\, we find that a centra
lly protected star network does not yield the maxi
mum payoff for the defending side in most circumst
ances\, even being the most secure network formati
on. Additionally\, it reveals the new type of netw
ork that often arises in an equilibrium of the gam
es with limited defensive resources -- a maxi-core
  network.
