DESCRIPTION:The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has committed t
o achieving Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2040 from
its direct operational activities including high
impact activities such as travel and field operati
ons. The goal is to align with aims set by the Nat
ural Environment Council which is part of the UK g
overnment's UKRI (Research and Innovation). As par
t of this commitment\, BAS has developed a Net Zer
o Carbon strategy and delivery plan and identified
key milestones along the Net Zero pathway to 2040
.\n\nA major series of decarbonisation projects ar
e in the process of delivery\, which include renew
able energy and low carbon systems\, energy storag
e\, automation\, a Digital Twin for the Royal Rese
arch Ship\, RRS Sir David Attenborough and moderni
sed and energy efficient infrastructure in Antarct
ica. The challenges to overcome to achieve Net Zer
o are significant\, especially when operating in A
ntarctica. There are also however significant oppo
rtunities that will ensure the UK polar community
can continue to deliver world class environmental
research in Antarctica in the long term.\n\nNopi E
xizidou is the Net Zero Transition lead at the Bri
tish Antarctic Survey (BAS). She is an Engineer by
background with more than 13 years of experience
on energy efficiency\, carbon reduction and wider
sustainability. At BAS she is leading the Net Zero
Team. Her focus is on the development and impleme
ntation of the Net Zero \n\nTo attend please book
