DESCRIPTION:In many astrophysical MHD contexts\, the computati
onal feasibility of covering all the scales of int
erest (from the dominion size down to the dissipat
ive scales) is and will be many orders of magnitud
e away from what would be ideally needed. Large ed
dy simulations are used to partially compensate su
ch lack of numerical resolution\, introducing sub-
grid-scale models. I present our compressible MHD
extension of the so-called gradient model\, that c
an be implemented for any problem\, equation of st
ate\, in relativistic and non-relativistic cases.
I show the breakthrough results of our main applic
ation so far\, the magnetic amplification during m
ergers\, and we can all discuss possible direct ap
 plications to planetary dynamo codes.
