DESCRIPTION:Many models in plasma physics can be derived from
a non canonical hamiltonian formulation expressed
using a Poisson bracket and a conserved Hamiltonia
n.For long time simulations\, conservation of inva
riants coming from the hamiltonian formulation are
essential. This can be achieved in particular by
looking for a discrete Poisson bracket and Hamilto
nian and then using splitting of either the bracke
t or the hamiltonian. As examples we will consider
the Vlasov-Maxwell equations as well as hybrid flu
id-kinetic models. We shall also show how dissipati
ve effects can be added using a symmetric positive
non definite bracket and a dissipated entropy.
