DESCRIPTION:Nanoparticle assembly is an ideal means to synthes
ize materials with controlled structures on the 10
-100nm length scale\, but such methods typically p
roduce 3D structures that are just a few microns i
n diameter\, or nominally 2D films of nanometer to
micron thicknesses. In this talk we will demonstr
ate a method of synthesizing gram-scale quantities
of nanoparticle superlattices that can be process
ed into free-standing cm-scale 3D objects of arbit
rary shape. This method allows for complete struct
ure control across 10^7 length scales\, including
atomic and molecular composition\, nanoscale order
 ing\, microstructure\, and macroscopic form.
