n this talk\, I explore a task called feedback com
ment generation for\nlanguage learners. It is a ta
sk of generating explanatory notes or\nhints facil
itating writing learning. To begin with\, through
 my personal and\nresearch experiences\, I discuss
how difficult English can be for\nnon-native speak
ers of English\, especially\, for those whose moth
 er\ntongue is a genetically unrelated language (e.
 g\, Japanese) (for\ninstance\, I had a hard time t
 o determine which is better\, "based\non/through m
y experience/experiences"\, and am still not quite
  sure).\nFeedback comments help learners understan
d why their writings are not\ngood together with u
 nderlying rules. Following this\, I talk about\nse
veral generation methods together with the dataset
s for research in feedback comment generation. I c
ompare these generation methods to\ndiscuss their
advantages and disadvantages. Finally\, I summariz
e the\ntalk with promising future directions.
