DESCRIPTION:Wave Turbulence (WT) refers to a statistical state
of many dispersive modes which are weakly nonline
ar on average. I will present the fundamental buil
ding blocks of the WT theory\, assumptions and the
ir justifications\, physical examples\, solved pro
blems and open questions. I will describe some rec
ent work which goes beyond the traditional WT cons
ideration of the wave spectra\, and deals with wav
 e PDFs\, non-gaussianity\, intermittency. I will o
utline picture of the WT cycle in which weak (on a
verage) random waves can get transformed into stro
ng coherent structures\, which in turn partially d
issipate their energy and partially return it to t
he incoherent waves.\nMy main aim will be to reach
out to the stat mech community\, in hope to find
common points and approaches which could be employ
ed for better understanding of the WT systems.
