  on around us.  But how reliable are all these num
 bers?  How much should we trust what we hear and r
 ead?  I will look at the way that statistics can b
 e used to try and persuade audiences to think or a
 ct in a certain way\, and contrast this with effor
 ts to make communication 'trustworthy'.
