DESCRIPTION: will introduce a possible universal exfoliation m
 echanism for massive\nproduction of 2D materials f
rom their bulk counterparts. Using first\nprincipl
es calculations\, we demonstrate that spontaneous
exfoliation can\nbe induced by introducing holes i
n layered materials. In contrast to the\nintroduct
ion of exccess electrons and electron-hole pairs\,
creating hole\nstates weakens the interlayer inte
ractions\, leading to layer separation.\nOur resul
ts may provide a universal route for producing lar
ge-area\nmonolayers by controlling their hole conc
 entrations.
