DESCRIPTION:*This seminar will be held online. Details will be
sent to the Earth Sciences and Bullard mailing li
sts. If you are not in Earth Sciences but would li
ke to attend\, please contact the talk organisers.
*\n\nMantle convection is the main mode how heat i
s transported from the deep Earth interior to near
its surface\, and mantle plumes are part of this
convection. Dynamic topography is one surface expr
ession of these convective processes. Here we disc
uss these features\, focusing on the North Atlanti
c and West Antarctica\, because topography and (po
tential) plumes in these regions are important for
determining ocean currents and ice sheet stabilit
 y. Hence they also play an important role in under
standing causes and effects of changing climates.
