DESCRIPTION:Peter Budd was born of missionary parents in Asmar
a\, Eritrea\, and spent parts of his childhood in
Southern Arabia\, the UK and the Horn of Africa. H
e studied for a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD at the
University of Manchester. After eight years workin
g as a research chemist with BP at Sunbury-on-Tham
es\, he returned to Manchester in 1989 as a lectur
er. In his research\, he seeks to understand the i
nteractions between polymers and small molecules\,
and to apply that knowledge in the development of
novel materials for applications such as membrane
 s for industrial-scale separations. He is co-inven
tor of a group of polymers referred to as “Polymer
s of Intrinsic Microporosity” or PIMs.
