DESCRIPTION:A common theme in model theory is to fix a mathema
tical structure exhibiting some notion of tameness
for definable sets\, and study expansions of that
structure by new definable sets which preserve th
is tameness. Examples include the study of stable
expansions of the complex field and o-minimal expa
nsions of the real field\, both of which have led
to spectacular applications of model theory to oth
er areas of mathematics. In this talk\, I will dis
cuss several results on classifying tame expansion
s of the group of integers (and other "weakly mini
mal" groups).
