DESCRIPTION:The seminar is intended to present the QuickerSim
CFD Toolbox for MATLAB\, a MATLAB plug-in for nume
rically solving fluid flow and heat transfer probl
ems. In the introductory part we discuss the motiv
ation for creating such a toolbox in MATLAB. Some
comparisons to CFD software are also drawn. The ma
in part begins with the mathematical foundation of
the solver. This includes both the Arbitrary Lagr
angian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation for the incompre
ssible Navier-Stokes Equations as well as the Leas
t-Square Finite Element Method (LS-FEM) for the co
mpressible Euler Equations. Next\, we discuss the
solver’s models for laminar and turbulent flows an
d heat transfer with particular attention paid to
our current users applications. Several examples o
f coupling the Toolbox with other MATLAB tools (Op
 timization Toolbox\, automatic mesh generators\, P
DE Toolbox) are shown as well. Finally\, we stress
the software’s didactic potential. The seminar co
ncludes with a live demonstration of simulations o
 f the coupled heat-fluid flow problem\, flow in a
deforming geometry and a compressible flow with a
shock wave region where adaptive mesh refinement i
 s employed.
