DESCRIPTION:A range of scales applies to most energy technolog
 ies\, from the fundamental science underpinning th
 em to the industrial-scale.  Often these scales ar
 e considered in isolation.  A new multi-scale appr
 oach is presented\, which considers energy technol
 ogies holistically.  It is applied to chemical loo
 ping combustion\, a promising technology for carbo
 n capture and storage.  The approach gives valuabl
 e new insight into how chemical looping combustion
  could be optimised for industrial use.
