The talk is an invitation to study compositions of GL(n) representations. This fairly natural operation is called plethysm (from the Greek plethysmos, multiplication). Almost a century after it was first considered, very basic questions about this operation remained unasked. We will briefly touch on several new lines of research involving crystals, categorification, log-concavity, and Ehrhart theory.

This talk is part of the Algebra and Representation Theory Seminar series.
