If you have a question about this talk, please contact nobody. BID - Quantum field theory with boundaries, impurities, and defects Deformation classes of fully-extended, unitary, invertible functorial field theories model anomaly SPTs and are computable via techniques in stable homotopy theory. We use these to study spontaneous symmetry breaking by a charged order parameter. Our framework allows one to study anomaly matching from a bulk to a symmetry defect, obstructions to forming symmetry defects, and higher Berry phases. I will discuss examples including domain walls for Majorana fermions and the Thouless pump. This talk is based on joint work with Debray, Devalapurkar, Liu, Pacheco-Tallaj, and Thorngren.
