OGG - Operators, Graphs, Groups

We give a general criterion for when the automorphism group of a nonelementary hyperbolic group is linear in terms of epimorphisms to finite products of finite simple groups of Lie type. Potential applications include to the question of linearity of mapping class groups. This is joint work with Thomas Koberda. DPMMS Geometric Group Theory Seminar.

This talk is part of the Isaac Newton Institute Seminar Series series.
