Stellar streams produced by dissolving globular clusters are highly sensitive probes of the dark matter content of the Milky Way, and can sometimes be used to constrain the mass of its satellite galaxies. One of the largest such satellites, the Sagittarius Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy (Sgr), is currently undergoing tidal disruption, meaning that its initial mass was much greater than that of the observed remnant, possibly > 4×10^10 M⊙. We consider the effects of such a large mass on the GD-1 stellar stream by running simulations with various initial masses of Sgr. We seek to answer whether these masses are consistent with the level of disruption observed in the real stream. This talk is part of the Institute of Astronomy Seminars series.
