It is known that metallic structures at sub-wavelength dimensions give rise to very interesting electromagnetic properties like negative permeability, negative refractive index and optical chirality. But, these materials result in inevitable energy losses due to dissipation. Dielectric structures with high refractive indices are observed to give rise to Mie-type resonances resulting in negative permittivity and permeability. Further, there is a remarkably high enhancement of electric and magnetic field intensities inside the dielectric structures near Mie-resonance frequencies due to excitation of selective multipolar modes. In this seminar, we present the resonant characteristics and the excitation of novel multipolar modes in high refractive index dielectric structures in THz region. We address the effect of geometry of the structures and  also the presence of anisotropic liquid crystal medium on the resonance characteristics using detailed multipole analysis  with possible applications towards tunable metasurfaces.
