Ever wondered what drives an entrepreneur? Maybe you’re thinking of starting your own business. What are the magic ingredients to prosper, to grow or to becoming your own boss?

Termed almost 40 years ago, “The Cambridge Phenomena”, the UK city exploded in its tech, life sciences and services since the 1960s. It grew from it’s unique setting where: networks are nurtured; innovation, creativity and curiosity are the order of the day! The Cambridge Cluster has transformed the way ideas grow into successful businesses, and the area is now one of the most important technology centres in Europe.

At the coal face of research and business; the highs, the lows, the challenges and how they overcame them, Catherine Ramsdale and Gillian Ewers will share their different entrepreneurial routes into start-ups. They will bring to life the key considerations joining or starting a company and building for success.

Join us and learn about the jump from STEMM research to business, and the critical role in marketing for setting strategy and value proposition, distribution channel, demand evaluation and product protection. Catherine and Gillian will walk through PragmatIC’s evolution, its achievements in the last 9 years and in establishing a spin-out and establishing yourself.

Catherine Ramsdale has over 15 years experience in printed electronics R&D. At PragmatIC, she leads device engineering activity. Previously she spent 8 years at Plastic Logic helping to pioneer technologies for semiconductor devices on plastic, including successful transfer to manufacturing. Catherine holds a PhD in organic electronics from the University of Cambridge and is named inventor on 12 patents.

Gillian Ewers has worked in the electronics industry for over 35 years, starting as a design engineer in an industrial company, then working in semiconductors in various roles in both multinational and smaller companies. She moved into marketing and took her MBA whilst working full time. She is a very experienced marketing professional with a track record of launching new products to market in high tech businesses.
