The Ellen McArthur Lectures, funded by the bequest of the first woman economic historian in Cambridge, take place every 2/3 years. For further details, see https://www.hist.cam.ac.uk/about-ellen-mcarthur.

The 2022 Ellen McArthur Lecturer is ROBERT C . ALLEN, Global Distinguished Professor of Economic History at New York University, Abu Dhabi. Bob Allen is one of the world’s most renowned economic historians, having made pioneering contributions on a range of themes, including English agricultural history, the causes of the British Industrial Revolution, Soviet industrialization, the Great Divergence and global economic history, and the methodology of calculating real wages such that they can be compared meaningfully across time and space.

For his Ellen McArthur Lectures Professor Allen has moved to a much earlier period, the Neolithic Revolution. The title of the lecture series is: ‘From Foraging to the First States in the Middle East: An Economic History’

There will be 4 lectures, 17:30-19:00 GMT on March 2nd, 3rd, 9th & 10th. Venue: the McCrum Theatre (Corpus Christi College). It is on Bene’t Street, Cambridge CB2 , and is accessed behind the Eagle Pub.
