Demetrius A. Floudas is Visiting Scholar in AI Governance at Downing College, University of Cambridge. He previously served as Regulatory Policy Lead of the Global Trade Programme at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. He is also Adj. Professor at the Law Faculty of Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University in Kaliningrad; Fellow of the Hellenic Institute of Foreign and International Law; and an Affiliate of Hughes Hall. Mr Floudas has been for 3 years Visiting Professor at the School of International Law of the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO-University), lecturing on an intensive course ”Financial Law of the European Union” for the Master’s Degree in International Finance Law. For over 15 years he has delivered a very well-received series of lectures at Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge, with emphasis on international affairs and contemporary conflict. He advised the House of Lords on the Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Act (2022) and was Foreign Policy Counsel for the Vice-President of the European Parliament. Previously, he had been engaged by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia to lead a team to revise the country’s Civil Code. In the past decade he advised the Egyptian Government on the restructuring of the Egyptian Competition Authority, the negotiations for the African Continental Free Trade Agreement and the renewal of the EU-Egypt Association Agreement. Before that, he had headed the project for the Accession of the Russian Federation to the World Trade Organisation. Furthermore, D. A. Floudas is an Artificial Intelligence policy & regulatory theorist, Demetrius Floudas is actively engaged in catastrophic risks analysis & mitigation policy and is the Editor in the ‘Nuclear War’ Section of the PhilPapers academic repository. He serves as the Senior Adviser to the Cambridge Existential Risk Initiative and the Convenor of CRCP . He has recently been elected Trustee of Cambridge University’s Student Union. Demetrius Floudas has contributed commentary on matters of Foreign Affairs & International Relations to a number of international think-tanks, with his views frequently appearing in the media worldwide (BBC TV & Radio, Voice of America, Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Washington Post, Vedomosti, Hromadske TV, RIA-Novosti, RBK TV, Politico et alia).
