Sir Andrew Motion Visits Cambridge in War Poets Event

Former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion will be reading at ‘When the Sun Shone in Vain: Edward Thomas and the War Poets’ on the 4th June, 2014, a special event at Hughes Hall to mark the centennial anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.

Focusing on the poetry of Edward Thomas, among other war poets, he will also read extracts from his new collection, The Customs House, which includes the sequence of war poems, Laurels and Donkeys which draws on soldiers’ experiences from the First and Second World Wars, through to the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sir Andrew will answer questions about Thomas as well as his own writing and will be signing copies of The Customs House.

The event will take place in the Pavilion Room at Hughes Hall, on Wednesday 4th June, at 7pm. To buy a ticket, RSVP to events@hughes.cam.ac.uk Tickets cost £7-00 / £6-00 Hughesians
